Hello everybody
a few things have been happening. have started work on the live show for muscle drum music, its gonna be a one man show involving some technology, gadgets and other things and will be performing shows soon.
jordie lane released his cd "sleeping patterns" and i was most fortunate to have been asked to do the drum sessions for that recording. it's a great record and jordie is certainly an exceptional artist, check it out. i went to the launch and it was one of the best shows i have seen in a while. wish i was hittin the skins though, had matt's drummer from the necessary few playing with him, the band was HOT.
on the session/ recording front i have put down some drums for lisa miller's new cd with shane o.mara (muscle drum 2) at the controls and am starting pre-production for abbie cardwells new album to be hopefully recorded later this year. another recording i played on last year which i reckon is gonna be a killer, and is being mixed at the moment. its by tess mckenna and i'm not sure when the release date is but keep an eye out...great songs, she is amazing.
oh yeh, john von goes (of rrr fame) or the jvg method as it goes by has been out in a backshed in the backwoods of brooklyn, yes brooklyn (i didn't know out west we had a brooklyn) recording an album. have had a very good time out there playing the drums...has a real local feel about it, there is a trilogy on the infamous perils of punt road. it's a rock n roll toe tapper record, except for some reggae track (i copied the brilliant charlie watts reggae groove from cherry o baby). mark ferrie from rockwiz lays down some mean guitar and vocals.
still doin some teaching and have purchased from ebay some classic old drumbooks written by louis bellson and gene krupa. also tracked down a cannonball adderley rare release , "music you all, live". worth a listen for sure. jo zawinul had left the band but they were still a real cookin outfit.
cheer's,
ash.

Muscle Drum 2 Press Release

Produced by Ashley Davies Muscle Drum Music Volume Two sees Ash stretch out on the same rhythm and musical themes he first hit on with MDM Vol 1.
Ash is still playing the drums, guitars, harps and doing the vocals but for this recording he called on some friends to add their musical expertise to the muscle drum music sound.
Ross Irwin - Cat Empire – (trumpet)
Jake Mason - Cookin on Three Burners – (Hammond, piano)
Craig Woodward – Headbelly Buzzard - (banjo, fiddle).
Shane O’Mara, who’s played and produced with the best of them (Tim Rogers, The Audreys, Lisa Miller), recorded and mixed the album and plays bass on one of the tracks.
Like Volume One, Muscle Drum Music Volume Two is an album to play loud and get physical with the music.

“This album is bloody great. Occasionally you get a record where, even before the first track is done, you've fallen head over heels in lust for it. This record shows the absolute maturity he possesses as a musician. You must dance.” Rhythms Magazine
“A fascinating exploration of rhythm and harmony……transports you to the crashing early morning waves of Australian surf beaches….Ash Davies is definitely a muscled sound.” MX Magazine
“Unmistakably Australian… An earthy, visceral experience…...there's a lot of ways that the Muscle Drum Music can be taken… anything except sitting still.
” Beat Magazine
